On September 27, 2014, Pudak Scientific held two training activities at the same date. These trainings were the “Science Laboratory Management Training” and “Chemistry Application in Everyday Life”.
The main speaker for these trainings was Dr. Yunita, M.Pd. - lecturer of Chemistry of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati - Bandung.
Mrs. Yunita conveyed, "The main problem on the laboratory management system in school is the lack of teacher’s belonging sense to laboratory in the school. Additionally, teachers are not yet familiar with the practice based teaching method, this cause science laboratory is as though being non-activated. Currently, the curriculum demands to have emphasizes on skills by the practice based learning activities, in accordance to Kurikulum 2013, that include: observing, analyzing, questioning, trying, and communicating.”
The participants of these trainings were teachers and laboratory assistants from Bandung, Subang, Tangerang, Indramayu, Purwakarta, Cirebon, and Bekasi.
On the Science Laboratory Management Training, the participants were trained to be able to manage the school’s physics, biology, and chemistry laboratory; to manage the administration of tools and materials; and to utilize science equipment properly.
Participants of the Science Laboratory Management Training had practices that included: basic technique of chemistry equipment usage; electrolysis test using U tube; power supply test using rheostat; iron core test on transformer model; usage of 4 arms balance, vernier caliper, basic meter, and multi meter; microscope usage and maintenance; digital microscope introduction; and simple preparations making. This training is a 30 hours training, which divided into one day training and the rest should be independent tasks.
Meanwhile in another room, participants were trained the skills of chemistry practical application in everyday life, in accordance with the Kurikulum 2013. The chemistry experiments performed in this training included: liquid soap making, mayonnaise making, banana peel battery, soap bar making, bio-plastic, gilding, and biodiesel making.
There are a lot of chemistries that can be applied in everyday life. By attending this training teachers and students are expected to have the skill in creating useful materials for household.
Our next training will be on laboratory management, under the theme of “Advanced Science Lab. Management Training for Teachers and Lab. Assistants”. This training will be held on October 11, 2014. (
