The Photonic Day is an annual event to promote the photonic technology to public in order to obtain a positive effect toward the industrial society development around the world. The Photonic Day is celebrated every 21 October in almost 20 countries in the world, including Indonesia. 21 October is the date when the value of 299792.458 km/s was adopted for the speed of light in the General Conference of Weights and Measures.
Most people are unaware of the photonic technology, even though this technology is common in everyday life, such as the LED lights, the photovoltaic solar energy, optical component technology, laser, sensor, projector, optic fiber, and many more. The photonic technology is mostly applied in the fields of medical, security, agriculture, food, communication, and transportation.
The Photonic Day event held at the Pudak Training Center, 3rd floor, Jl. Mekar Raya, Kav. 12, Gedebage, Bandung was attended by 150 participants. The activities of this event included the demonstration of science games and experiments using laser technology, making of spectrophotometer by participants, and releasing 150 balloons attached with LED lights by each participant.
Mr. Janto Sulungbudi, the speaker from CYS (Center for Young Scientist), said that people should know about the photonic technology because this technology will replace the electron based media technology used currently.
This Photonic Day was also celebrated by various company, research organization, university, school, and students all over the world. This event is expected to spread the news about photonic through the media. This celebration event held by Pudak Scientific will be posted on the UNESCO website. This Photonic Day of 2014 was an event to increase people awareness about Photonic, prior to the International Year of Lights 2015. |
