Pudak Scientific always try to actively involved in improving Indonesian education to keep up with the world development. Therefore, Pudak Scientific regularly held education workshop for teachers, laboratory assistants, lecturer, and university students. On April 29, 2017, Pudak Scientific held “Workshop of Laboratory Management, Basic Level” at Pudak Training Center in Gedebage, Bandung. This workshop was attended by participants from DKI Jakarta, West Java, Pekalongan, South Sumatra, and Lampung.  

Laboratory is a place to do experiment, research, training and other activity related to physics, chemistry, and biology or any other field of knowledge (Emha 2002). School should also have laboratories that accordance to the knowledge field such as science laboratory, social science laboratory, and language laboratory. Besides the laboratory equipment availability, laboratory management should also be considered for a smooth and safe activity in laboratory. This workshop was focused on the science laboratory management.

The main speaker of this workshop, Dr. Yunita, M.Pd., conveyed about various basic knowledge that a laboratory assistant should know in managing a school science laboratory. Moreover, she also shared her experience in laboratory management. One participant said, “I received more new knowledge from Miss Yunita. I will implement it in my school laboratory.” 

In this workshop, participants were also had various science experiment to familiarize tem with various equipment usually available in schools science laboratory. In this experiment session participants were allowed to use Pudak Scientific Senior High School Chemistry Kit; to know how to use the equipment; as well as the equipment storage, maintenance, and repair. Participants were also had leaf’s stomata observation by using microscope, while learning about microscope care and maintenance. For physics experiment, participants were learning more about the usage, maintenance, and storage of various measurement devices such as calipers, screw micrometer, stopwatch, cent-O-gram balance, basic meter, and more.

We wished this workshop will help in improving teachers and laboratory assistants’ competence in school laboratory management, for a better Indonesian education.
