Workshop of Science Games, April 23, 2016
 
 
Science learning is sometimes considered as an unpleasant experience by students because it mostly explained through complicated formulas, high risk experiments, and never ending memorizing. This impression emerged because science learning process could be conducted in a better way. Science learning should emphasized direct experience, not overloaded concept or formulas or memorizing subjects that overwhelmed students. Therefore, science games are available for better experience of learning science. 

On April 23, 2016, Pudak Scientific held a workshop that particularly discussed about science games, which is the Workshop of Science Games. This workshop attended by participants from West Java, Yogyakarta, and DKI Jakarta. The main speaker was Drs. Ali Kusrijadi, M. Si.  He is a lecturer of Chemistry Education Department of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. In addition to his explanation if science games to change student’s paradigm and science in daily life, he demonstrated some interesting science games such as element, mixture, and compound differentiation, change the paper’s color, burning foam, and redox and catalyst reactions. The most interesting demonstration was the burning fire when he asked participants to burn his hand and his hand is still okay.  

After lunch break, participants were invited to visit Pudak Scientific factory to see the facilities and production activities of Pudak Scientific’s products. The activity is continues with science games experiments that included:
  • tin crushing
  • tea changing
  • making bridge construction
  • inserting egg into Erlenmeyer flask
  • the amazing ruler
  • chemistry water fall
  • candle observation
  • sound observation
Participants were very enthusiastic in doing these science games. One participant said that in this way, learning science will be fun for students. The workshop held at Pudak Training Center, Gedebage, Bandung finished at 17.00 western Indonesian time. Participants were satisfied; some of them even planned to follow other workshop of Pudak Scientific. Pudak Scientific held educational workshop in accordance with teachers needs and based on curriculum analysis and requests in field.
